Hamburg is the leading city in the Federal Republic for musicals. The most successful musicals are "Cats", with 5.400 performances since 1986 and "Phantom of the Opera", with more than 3.500 peformances. "Cats" is the longest showing musical in the whole of Germany.
The biggest theatre in Europe is the "Neue Flora" in Hamburg. It seats over 2.000 people and has the most up-to-date stage technology in the world. Already 6.5 million visitors have been able to experience the world-famous musical "Phantom of the Opera" there.
