The area around Savignyplatz has always been a lively place for cafes and pubs. You meet a mixed, partly intellectual crowd here in the pubs, elegant restaurants and smart shops. Berlin's chic cultural elite frequents the Paris Bar. Schwarze Cafe in Kantstaße is open round the clock and has been a firm favorite with a wide variety of cafe visitors for years. Also very popular are Cafe Aedes under the S-Bahn arches and Cafe Hegel with its Russian atmosphere on the square itself. In Grolmanstaße you tumble from one pub into the next, whether it's the rustic Zwiebelfisch or Florian, both popular haunts for artists. In Terzo Mondo the publican from the TV serial "Lindenstaße" invites you to dine. In Satyam in Goethestraße you can eat your fill of Indian vegetarian food. Knesebeckstraße presents a similar picture. The best-known place here is Schell with its lovely sunny terrace. On the next corner, in Carmerstraße, you find the old Berlin spirit of '68 in the pub Dicke Wirtin. Dralle's, a long-established popular American-style pub, boasts three different saloons. Around the corner, the famous club A-Trane attracts jazz fans from all over the city.
Schell Cafe in a former petrol station, popular with casually elegant types, not only for Sunday brunch (from 10am for 28,50 DM). In summer you sit outside on the terrace -the place to see and e seen.

Schwarzes Cafe Cult cafe close to Zoo station - for many people the first or the last stop on their Berlin trip. Open round the clock, so you can spend the whole night here if you've got nowhere to sleep, and you won't get bored unless you're boring yourself. Weird dishes as well as good food. In the daytime you can eat outside in the courtyard.

Dralle's Round the corner from Grolmanstr. with it's posh restaurants you find a nice cafe restaurant with a lot going on e.g. happy hour 5 pm to 9 pm, live hiphop (admission free) on Tuesday and Thursdays or literary readings in the three salon rooms where you can sit in an armchair by the fireplace or simply play the part of the social lion.
