Cologne natives and Rhinelanders as well prefer good, substantial fare when it comes to dining out. In many restaurants you will find a number of regional dishes on the menu. We recommend the various brewery houses, which offer their home-brewed beer and a really good choice of local dishes.

Brauerei zur Malzmühle
A venerable and old brewery serving traditional Kölsch cuisine. Right in the middle of the centre.

Brauhaus Päffgen
This typical "Kölsch" restaurant and brewery has a very rich tradition. It is specialised in fare indigenous both to Cologne in particular and the Rhineland in genral.

This cosy brewery serves Kölsch specialties, its own home-brewed "Schnaps" and, of course, Kölsch on the tab. hey also have a nice beer garden.

Here lives tradition - for more than 600 years this restaurant already exists. Specialties are based on traditional Rhineland cuisine, and include brain of calf, sweetbread and game. It is an expensive pleasure to eat here, but it is worth it.

A popular restaurant with a large beer garden located some distance away from the centre of things in the suburb of Rodenkirchen. Specialties include "Mainzer Käse" and cologne liver sausage.
